Fitting Assistance

At Zovo, not a day goes by that we're not helping 40-something women find the right size, so you're not alone if you're not sure. The rumor is, as many as 8 in 10 women wear the wrong size bra. Our Zovo boutique is proud to say that we were the recipients of three awards in 2006, criteria for being an award winning lingerie boutique certainly includes knowing how to fit a bra, so let's see if we can translate what we do in the store to you out there on the web. I have to say, there are several ways the experts say to do this, when we got into this business, we got great training from industry veterans. I'm going to teach you the way we've seen it work best in the store.

For starters, please note, this is not rocket science, so keep an open mind and be patient, this is worth the time... You'll need a measuring tape, a pen and a piece of paper.

There are 2 things we have to determine, your band size (which is the "32" of a size 32C) and your cup size, which, you might guess is the "C" in the 32C size. Easy right?

Let's start with your band size...

With a bra on, measure where the band lies directly under your breasts and evenly around your back. Take the measuring tape and cinch it comfortably tight. We do not want a loose measurement here. Write this number down.

Actual band measurement Band size
Less than 27 inches 30 band
27 - 29 inches 32 band
29 - 32 inches 34 band
33 - 34 inches 36 band
35 - 39 inches 38 band
39 - 41 inches 40 band
42 - 43 inches 42 band
44 - 45 inches 44 band

Now, cup size....

Take the measuring tape and measure loosely around the fullest part of your bust. Make sure the tape is even around front and back. Write this number down.

Get your pen and paper out....

Subtract the actual band measurement (the first number you wrote down), from the second number. This is the only part that's a little tricky... Do NOT subtract your band size from the cup size. For example: if your band measurement is 30" and your cup measurement is 32", then the difference between these measurements is 2 inches, and you'd wear a B-cup.

1-inch difference A Cup
2-inch difference B Cup
3-inch difference C Cup
4-inch difference D Cup
5-inch difference E Cup
6-inch difference F Cup

Other things to think about

Make sure you measure yourself 1x a year. As we all know, our bodies change (for the better!) each year, so sometimes they're up, other times, they're down... Zovo just wants to make sure you're comfortable and it begins with wearing the right size bra.

Don't wear any bra more than 3 days in a row. The elastic needs a rest. So make sure you have a rotating bra habit.

What every bra drawer needs is... we get asked a lot, "what types of bras should I have?" Zovo recommends a contour (or tee-shirt bra), a pretty, a strapless, a racer back and a weekend bra. What's this? It's basically your most comfy.

Never put your bra in the dryer. Your bras should last 2 years if you take care of them properly. Basically this means hand wash cold and line dry. We recommend using a delicate liquid soap as well.
